While many people are left aghast when their open source media player refuses to play certain files, VLC remains one of the most versatile media players. Depending on your operating system, the VLC player supports a wide variety of formats.
One of the most problematic files in the open-source world certainly seems to be the .MPK file. Fortunately, the answer to the question: “Does VLC play .MPK files?” is a resounding “YES!”
.MKV files have both video and audio streams that have been produced with a coder. To play these files the stream needs to be decoded. Many media players do not have the necessary software to decode these streams, but VLC player supports .MKV files!
Because the VLC player can play .MKV files, you probably will not need to add any extra decoders. You can just sit back and enjoy your video experience.

VLC remains to be one of the most versatile players out there supporting a wide variety of formats. The amount of features that VLC includes in such a small package is amazing. Outside of being the best media player ever created, being able to play pretty much any audio or video file you throw at it, and FREE; VLC offers some unique features not found anywhere else.
